This morph of the whelk Nucella lamellosa represents a gradation from the lightly sculpted types around Friday Harbor on the eastern side of San Juan Island to the more heavily sculpted types which prevail to the northward (see Mitchell’s Bay and Morses Island).  Colour is absent or only feebly expressed in this morph.
